Sita Ashtami 2025: Attain Lord Rama’s Blessings by Pleasing Goddess Sita on This Auspicious Day

Sita Ashtami 2025 Date and Significance
Sita Ashtami, observed on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Phalguna, holds great religious significance. In 2025, this sacred festival will be celebrated on Thursday, February 20. According to the Hindu calendar, Ashtami Tithi will begin at 7:20 AM on this day. Devotees will observe this fast and worship Goddess Sita with devotion.
Phalguna Month and Sita Ashtami Significance
Phalguna is the twelfth and last month of the Hindu lunar calendar. During this time, winter starts to fade, and a joyful atmosphere spreads across nature. Crops like wheat and peas ripen, and the essence of spring begins to emerge, culminating in the festival of Holi.
On this special day, devotees observe the Janaki Vrat, dedicated to Goddess Sita, also known as Janaki, the daughter of King Janaka. Scriptures mention that Lord Rama himself performed this fast near the seashore under the guidance of his Guru, Sage Vashistha. The rituals include offering barley, rice, sesame seeds, and preparing a sacred food offering known as pooa (a type of sweet dish). Devotees believe that observing this fast fulfills their desires and brings divine blessings.
Mythological Significance of Sita Ashtami
Some Vaishnava texts suggest that Janaki Jayanti is celebrated on Vaishakha Shukla Navami. However, according to the Hindu scripture Nirnaya Sindhu:
"Phalgunasya cha maasasya krishnaashtamyaam mahipate,
Jaataa Dasharatheh patni tasminnahani Janaki."
This means that Goddess Sita was born on Phalguna Krishna Ashtami, making this day widely known as Sita Ashtami. In some regions, women also observe this fast on Phalguna Krishna Navami.
Sita Ashtami Vrat Vidhi (Puja Rituals)
On this day, devotees follow these steps to perform the puja:
- Place a red cloth on a sacred platform and create an eight-petal lotus design using rice grains.
- Install idols or images of Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Sita.
- Offer sandalwood, flowers, and sacred water while chanting prayers.
- In the evening, light as many oil lamps (diyas) as possible and distribute food to Brahmins.
- Devotees break their fast after completing the puja and donate puja materials to a Brahmin on the next day.
Powerful Mantra to Please Goddess Sita
"Neel saroruha neel mani, neel neeradhar syaam,
Lajahim tan sobha nirkhi, koti-koti sat kaam."
Chanting this mantra pleases Goddess Sita, and her divine grace helps devotees attain the blessings of Lord Rama. Just as Goddess Parvati represents the energy of Lord Shiva, Goddess Sita embodies the strength and glory of Lord Rama.
By observing Sita Ashtami with devotion, devotees can receive prosperity, happiness, and spiritual enlightenment in their lives.
